Birling Bitter

Birling is the sport of log rolling, a skill developed by logging River Drivers back in the 1800's.  This British style Extra Special Bitter is well balanced with a smooth maltiness and a moderate bitterness from East Kent Goldings hops.  They give a nice earthy, floral aroma paired with the fruity, sweet character from Maris Otter malt and English Ale yeast.

 

Bonaparte - Dry Stout

Style: Irish-Style Dry Stout

This classic Irish-style stout offers coffee-like roasted barley malt aromas with an earthy European hop bitterness. This is a stout you can enjoy winter, spring, summer or fall, morning, noon or night! You're welcome!

Chapaco Cream Stout

Style: Milk Stout

Our milk stout is rich and robust, with notes of coffee and dark chocolate from the roasted malts, balanced by an approachable, light body and fluffy sweetness. We do not recommend this style for those with lactose intolerance.

DAX - Red IPA

This smooth malty IPA boasts the slightly sweet caramel flavor of a traditional red ale that is perfectly and harmoniously balanced by the subtle citrus bitterness of select hops.

Mocha Java Porter

Style: Robust Porter

An assertive dark ale dominated by roast coffee, dark chocolate character and toffee-like maltiness. With a medium-full body and lingering roast malt bitterness before a long bittersweet finish.

Oswegatchie Export 80/-

Style: Scotch Ale

The shilling rating is a uniquely Scottish measure for a beer's strength.  The higher the shilling the stronger the beer.  This shilling "Export" strength is a rich malty traditional Scotch Ale with a big flavor and aroma.  English Maris Otter Pale Malt creates the toffee and caramel notes and a full-bodied mouthfeel.

Peavey Hook Pale Ale

Style: English Pale Ale

This traditional English style pale ale has a slight caramel malt sweetness with a balancing bitterness from 100% NYS grown Willamette Hops.  This is a derivative of Fuggles which are common on English ales. They provide earthy and slightly spicy notes that work well with the English Ale Yeast.

Scarlet PumpkinAle

Style: Pumpkin/Yam ale

Based on our Red Ale, this seasonal offers subtle hints of pumpkin and spices for a smooth caramel, malty ale. Pouring a deep, fiery amber with a rocky off-white head.

WaySeeker Ale Project

The "WaySeeker Ale Project" is the Research and Development arm of BarkEater Craft Brewery. This project gives us the freedom to explore new & exciting beers that are inspired by historical styles OR something completely different that takes us in an entirely new direction. WaySeeking or wayfinding is the process of orienting ourselves and then navigating a way forward toward a new destination either physically or figuratively. The beers that will be introduced under this project will be offered exclusively at our taproom in Lowville, NY.  Patrons will have an opportunity to experience these special beers and offer feedback to the brewers as part of the development process.

"WaySeeker Studios" is the name of our founder's drawing studio. The development of his drawing style was a deeply personal exploration; he, therefore, named it after his first sea kayak, called "WaySeeker."  It also seemed an appropriate name for this new form of exploration in the brewing of great handcrafted beer.

BLK River - India Black Rye

This dark, coffee-colored India-style black ale pours a rocky, light tan head.  You’ll find the perfect balance from the sweet, caramel malts followed by a piney flavor from the Columbus & Cascade hops with the spiciness of rye malt.  The smooth body leaves a long-lasting hoppy and dry finish.  If I were stranded on a deserted island this would be the beer I would wish to have on tap!

Brantingham Brown Ale

A light bodied ale brewed with 5 varieties of malted grain balanced by 3 types of hops.  You'll enjoy notes of malted chocolate, caramel, and roast coffee and a mild hop character.

DAX - Dry IPA

Crisp yet smooth hop flavors without a trace of residual sweetness.  A very refreshing and drinkable IPA.

DAX - Session IPA

Light body, crisp and very flavorful.  A very well balanced session IPA that is a favorite with our brewers.  We use rye malt to offer a subtle spiciness and 100% NYS grown hops is this popular favorite.

Golden Strong Ale

Montague Mild

This is a traditional English ale with a moderate ABV and big in flavor.  This is important when you're sitting out a snowstorm in Montague, NY.  Brewed with 5 types of English malt providing biscuity, nutty undertones with a gentle toffee and chocolate-like roast character.  100% of the hops are NYS grown Willamette.

Oswegatchie Light 60/-

Style: Scottish Ale

The shilling rating is a uniquely Scottish measure for a beer's strength.  The higher the shilling the stronger the beer. This "light" Scottish Ale has a mild malt sweetness.  100% NYS Willamette and Chinook hops offer an earthy balance.  Another of our favorites to join the popular English Mild is our version of a Scottish 60 Shilling Ale.  Traditionally the strength of the beer dictated the price and therefore the name.  This is a low ABV Scottish Ale also known as a Two-Penny.  It's a great ale to fill up several pints on a lazy afternoon.

Sinzibukwud - Maple Dark Strong

Style: Belgian Dark Strong

Sinzibukwud is the Algonquin word for Maple Syrup. It means 'from the wood". Xavier, our brewer loves the Belgian Dark Strong style of ale. He set out to brew a truly unique New England version using local maple syrup as the alternative to traditional Belgian candy sugars. You'll find a rich full bodied beer with very subtle hints of maple as it completely ferments out leaving only a slight flavor trace and aroma. He uses 100% local Lewis County, NY Maple Syrup for this truly special ale.

Wingapo - Pale Ale

Style: American Pale Ale

Formerly known as GunWale Pale, this pale ale is brewed with 3 types of specialty malts and two hop varieties. This ale is dry hopped with our locally grown Columbus. You'll get hints of tangerine and lemon citrus from the hops balanced against a biscuity malt character. Wingapo is Algonquin for 'Hello, how are you" or "Howzit brah?"

Having a pronounced roasted, coffee-like flavor and aroma, with a deep color and chocolaty brown head provided by the black malt.  The medium body makes for a very drinkable dark beer. Named for the North Country lake where our founder grew up.

Centennial IPA

This is a special IPA brewed with one malt and one 100% NYS grown hop variety called Centennial.  The focus on the one locally grown hop gives this IPA a unique flavor profile.

 

DAX - India Pale Ale

DAX is a local nickname for the Adirondacks and also the name for our family of IPA's. This is our version of the popular style using 5 varieties of hops in the boil and 2 varieties of dry hops. We don't skimp on malt either. We have carefully selected 5 different malts to balance out the hop character

American white wheat gives this beer a refreshing creamy and smooth mouthfeel.  Additions of coriander and bitter orange peel round out the slightly tart flavors from the yeast.

Maple Session Ale

This unique beer is a very light Belgian Singel, or patersbier, brewed with local Lewis County Maple Syrup. It offers a slightly biscuity, cracker-like maltiness and subtle maple notes in the aftertaste.

MÜS River - Red Ale

Style: American Red Ale

Pronounced "moose," this hearty ale pours a deep, fiery amber with a rocky off-white head. The assertive aroma is dominated by dry, earthy American hops: citrus, floral and pine tree notes all making a showing! The hops dominate, lending a hefty bitterness to the palate, but are backed up by the caramel malts.

Oswegatchie Wee Heavy

A rich, malty traditional Scotch Ale with big flavor and aroma. Wee Heavy is a complex, strong beer originating in Scotland and characterized by substantial malt-influenced flavors. Wee Heavy remains one of Scotland's definitive beers and the style has gained a worldwide following.

Renee's Rye Stout

In honor and memory of our friend Renee Beyer.  This is a fine stout using chocolate rye as part of the grain bill.  Like a dry stout with a spicy pumpernickel overtone from the earthy character of rye.

TUG - Copper Ale

Style: Pale Ale

A bright copper colored ale with a rich malt character and aroma with the beautifully balanced hop bitterness from locally grown Nugget and Centennial hops from the Tug Hill Region and Tug Hill Vineyards. It exhibits a sumptuous, earthy malt and hops aroma before you dive into the woodsy, dark flavor of a beer that will remind you of a walk in the woods on a warm Autumn day.
